Beach Fun for August 14th – 23rd

There’s still time to squeeze in a summer family beach vacation. Warm weather… lower rates… fewer crowds… and TONS of FUN! Staff selections for the coming days include lots of fun events for the whole family.

Sounds of Summer… FREE concert by the Super Glide Band August 21st at North Myrtle Beach’s beautiful McLean Park located just south of Main Street at the corner of Oak Drive and 2nd Avenue South. Bring a beach chair, blanket, picnic, non-alcoholic beverages and relax and play. Food and beverages will also be provided for purchase at the park. Concerts are from 7 to 9PM and are Family-Friendly Events.

Whole Lotta Shakin’ Oldies Fest at La Belle Amie Vineyard, August 22nd… It’s a musical "blast from the past" on the beautiful shaded grounds of the vineyard. Two talented bands, Latitude and The Necessary Band will rock the yard. Plus, outdoor cooking, crafters, prizes, vineyard tour, a limerick contest, and of course, sample the wines of La Belle Amie Vineyard. So pack up your chairs and blankets and come spend a most memorable day with us. $8 per person (under 18 & over 80 admitted Free) Bring two canned/dry good items for area food banks and get $3 off admission.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans Baseball – home games 21st – 23rd… the Atlanta Braves Class "A" team, the Pelicans, are the local favorite Boys of Summer. Come out to BB&T/Coastal Field and see tomorrow’s stars today. Great seats from $7 to $11.

Big River, the Musical - at the Theatre of the Republic in downtown Conway. Come along with Huck Finn and runaway slave Jim on a musical adventure down the Mississippi River in this classic Mark Twain tale. Sunday 3PM matinees; 8PM shows Wed-Sat.

Sculpture Exhibition at Brookgreen Gardens, now – August 23rd… The National Sculpture Society 76th Annual Awards Exhibition includes the work of 42 prominent sculptors from across the country, including 15 prize-winning works. Visitors will be able to vote for their favorite sculptures to win Brookgreen Gardens’ People’s Choice Award. The exhibition is free with regular garden admission.

The Saturday Night Rebel Rockers Traveling Circus & Medicine Show at the House of Blues on the 20th… performing for your pleasure will be Counting Crows, Michael Franti & Spearhead, and Augustana – separately and ensemble. Get your tickets early!

The Drive By Truckers at the House of Blues on the 21st… opening will be singer/songwriter Tift Merritt. Looks like an evening of rockin’ Americana.
